How To Properly Clean Your Microwave Oven
One of the most admired appliances these days is the microwave oven. From cooking sumptuous treats to reheating leftover foods, its usefulness is truly remarkable. It's no wonder why it's a staple in most modern kitchens. But it seems that it's also frequently neglected in terms of cleaning and maintenance.
There may be different kinds of such oven available. However, their general cleaning and maintenance needs remain equally the same. The countertop microwave oven is perhaps the most common kind of them all. Usually, cleaning it involves getting rid of food particles stuck along the inside walls. Eliminating nasty odors is also a part of it.
For your safety, ensure that the oven is unplugged before cleaning it. You may use a common stove cleaner, spray it inside, and let it stay there for a few minutes. Making your own cleaning solution is easy. Club soda in a spray bottle is very effective. Vinegar works just as well. If you want, you may make a paste out of vinegar and baking soda.
After a few minutes, wipe the inside of the oven with a damp towel or sponge. Rinse it in warm water as necessary, cleaning the entire of the oven's interiors. Afterwards, dry using a paper towel. Sometimes, some ovens require other special cleaning considerations. For example, if you own a GE microwave, check the manual that comes with the package to be sure.
Getting rid of the smell is not as complicated as you think it is. Simply cut 2-3 lemons into thin strips, place it in a bowl of water, then heat it for about 5 minutes. You may also use lemon juice available at grocery stores. A tablespoon of vinegar in a cup of water may be used as substitute for lemon juice.
Having an over the range microwave means having to clean two different appliances. Cleaning the vent part requires you to take it apart. Carefully detach the hood filter. Let it soak for 5 minutes in warm water. Afterwards, spray with your preferred cleaning solution. Let it work there for about 15 minutes before scrubbing it with a pad that's non-abrasive. Rinse it with water afterwards.
Again using your choice of cleaning solution, spray the vent's interior. However, avoid spraying on crevices and the light. Let the solution sit for about 15 minutes. Use a damp sponge or cloth to completely remove the solution. For hard-to-reach areas of the vent, use a small brush. Dry using kitchen towels, then reattach the filter.
