can i put varnish on nickel earrings so they don't irritate me?
I'm allergic - or rather, sensitive - to nickel in earrings. I have to wear pure sterling silver or surgical steel. Normally I just buy sterling silver hooks & swop the earrings onto them if they come with non-suitable hooks - but that doesn't work on studs. I was wondering if I can paint varnish or clear nail varnish on the earrings hooks to prevent the metal from making contact with my skin.
Does anyone know if this will work & if it's safe?

Far more i think than Nickel does! I wouldnt therefore take the risk, Better to buy other very similar earrings made of silver or surgical steel, if they are a present from someone special as i suspect.
If not simply stop wearing them simple as that. Nothing to stop you from keeping them! Nail polish contains Acetone for example so not good to use that either really,(see links) they are interesting (Go to section 2 constituents on the left in contents list box) in the first one.
