Painful pap? Kind of personal?
I am still a virgin and my first pap smear was extremely painful. My doctor told me it was normal to be in that much pain, but it felt like I was being ripped open with a knife. Even having surgical pins removed was not this bad. Afterwards, I got sharp, stabbing pains on and off for the next 15 hours. I took ibprofen, but it did nothing.
I had my last test with a gyno who uses novocain. It hurt but was bearable. But now she's stopped practicing. My new doctor has smaller tools but no novocaine, and says I shouldn' t need it. He also doesn't think I should need a gynocologist for this test.
I'm way overdue for another test, but I can't go through that much pain again. I would seriously rather get my cervix removed than be put through that level of pain a second time.
Is this kind of pain really normal like my first doctor said? If yes, then what can I do to get through the test? If not then what is wrong? Could I have an infection or scarring or something?
more than likely there is something wrong with your doctor and not you. I don't think he was sensitive to you enough to be gentle. I would get a female ob-gyn. They have a new way to collect cells and it does hurt. But the pain should be extremely short. I would get a new doctor. Doctor shop if you want. I had a hysterectomy in my 20's and now am 50. You DO NOT know what you are talking about when you say you don't care if you lose your cervix. You will pay for it forever.
