Periodonist Columbus - Discover The Periodontist Equipment
A periodontist Columbus is a dentist that specializes in the treatment of the gums and supporting tissues of the teeth. Periodontist Columbus must complete a three year post doctoral program in periodontics and implant dentistry in addition to several supplemental board exams to be recognized as a specialist. A periodontist who recognizes gum disease will first attempt to solve the problem in the most effective and least invasive method to preserve the original health of your gums and teeth.
The Periodontist examines the gums, checks to see if there is any gum line recession, assesses how the teeth fit together when biting, and checks the teeth to see if any are loose. The periodontist will take a small measuring instrument called a periodontal probe and place it between the teeth and gums to determine the depth of pockets. Listed below are other periodontist tools that maybe used during an examination or treatment. Deep cleaning, surgery and implants may be required, depending on the stage of the disease.
The most common and well known dental tool that's commonly used for every patient is the drill. A drill is an electrically powered tool used to remove bone from underneath a tooth. Typically, a patient will be under local anesthesia when having a tooth drilled, as the removal of bone can be painful. If a tooth must be extracted or lengthened, some or all of the bone holding it may have to come out as well. In some procedures where a dentist is isolating one tooth or one specific part of the mouth, a rubber dam is used to allow the periodontist to see better, as well as protect the patient's airway. These tools expand the socket and help remove the tooth from the bone and ligament. In addition to the tools used in a basic periodontist exam, other tools are used for other purposes. Most periodontist and their assistant use masks, protective gloves, safety glasses, and face shields during dental procedures to protect them from debris, bacteria, and chemicals.
The scaler is a metal hand tool with a fine, dull tip that can be electric or air-powered. The dull tip vibrates at a high speed and knocks plaque off the teeth as it is moved along the teeth near the gums. Simultaneously, a water-irrigation system will cool the tip and flush out the plaque, tartar and other debris that fall from the teeth. Non-powered scalers and curettes are hooked scrapers that are then used to scrape off remaining debris manually. Periodontist and their assistant may use a disposable saliva ejector, which uses a low volume of suction to remove saliva and small debris from the mouth during procedure.
For unpleasant procedures, the periodontist Columbus will need tools, such as syringes and disposable needles that will provide anesthesia. Periodontal surgery can be needed if you have an advanced stage of periodontal disease. If your tooth is so damaged it should be removed from the bone holding it in place, the dentist will grab it with extraction forceps. Forceps look like pliers, and they grab onto the tooth in the same manner. An elevator, which resembles a screwdriver, may then be used to help wiggle it out.
