Don't Let Your Bird Dog Get An Ear Infection

gun dogs are one of the most common ailments they have.  There are a lot of reasons for them to get one, including the size and depth of their ears.  Some breeds are more prone to them than others, especially those with large, floppy ears and those prone to being outdoors.  Gun dogs, in this regard, are common sufferers of ear infections.  The infection starts as yeast or bacteria grows inside the dog's ear and works its way into the ear canal.~It’s not uncommon for bird dogs to get an ear infection in fact it’s a result of the size and depth of their ears.  Because hunting dogs (gun dogs) spend so much time outdoors and have large, floppy ears, they are actually more prone to getting an ear infection.  Infections in the ear are a result of yeast or bacteria which can grow in your dogs’ ear and eventually may wind up in the ear canal.~It’s not uncommon for hunting dogs to get an ear infection in fact it’s a result of the size and depth of their ears.  Because hunting dogs (gun dogs) spend so much time outdoors and have large, floppy ears, they are actually more prone to getting an ear infection.  Infections in the ear are a result of yeast or bacteria which can grow in your dogs’ ear and eventually may wind up in the ear canal.}

Symptoms of Otitis

Not only are ear infections painful, in extreme cases they may actually lead to your dog becoming deaf.  There are some symptoms that you can be on the lookout for – some are basic behaviors of dogs that have ear infections while others are clinical symptoms.  You should be aware if:

Discharge from the ears, usually yellow or green in color

Foul smell to the ear

Excessive scratching or head shaking

These early signs can get worse and becoming a serious infection.  Once the infection begins to creep deeper into your dog's ear, it will get into the inner ear and begin affecting your dog's ability to keep his balance and to hear:

Disorientation

Falling down or an awkward “drunken” gate

Loss of hearing

Unusual eye movements or “crazy eye”

As soon as you've noticed something wrong, take your dog to a veterinarian.  The faster you treat the infection, the easier it will be to care for it and the less it will cost you in money and your dog in pain.

Your veterinarian can find the problem by utilizing a special scope to observe the infection, and sometimes, a cotton swab may be use to get a sample. Ear mites and other diseases can have the same symptoms of otitis, so they must be ruled out before treatment can begin.

Treating Ostitis

Your dogs’ ear infection may be treated in one of two of ways:

A)  For a less serious infection your vet may suggest you treat the dog with hydrogen peroxide which you place directly in the ear;

B)  For a more serious infection your dog may require a prescription antibiotic or other appropriate medications.

Regardless of the course of treatment that is recommended for your dogs ear infection, your vet is likely to perform a thorough cleaning of your dogs ears before the treatment begins, then they will give the initial dose of medication to show you how to use it and you’ll finish the course of treatment at home.

When you give the medication, which is usually squirted or poured into the dog's ear, you will have to hold the dog down or have someone help you.  Obviously, the dog won't like this, but it needs to be done.

Watch your dog carefully.  Even after the infection is “cured,” it can come back again and dogs never become immune to it.  Remember: the earlier you catch it, the easier it will be to take care of it.

There are lots of hunting dog supplies on the market today. Do your research before you purchase anything include dog training collars.

What is wrong with my graphics device?

I recently installed a new OS (win xp pro) on my computer.
intel pentium 4 Dreamsys by http//:www.trigem.co.kr. I am in Korea

Now my computer only displays 4 colors.
If i check the setting, my only choice is four colors.

When I check what device is installed, it comes up blank.

I have spent all day trying to figure out what driver I need to install. I was reading some Yahoo answers and some one suggested using the "dxdiag" to find out the display device running on the computer.

My display device comes up blank when I look on the direct X diagnostic.

What did I do to my computer?

The four colors is the maximium Windows XP can display when there is a video driver problem. Unless you have the device driver for the video adapter, the dxdiag utility is going to be useless because it gets it's information from the device driver list.

If this is an actual card in the system. Here is a backend approach.

1. Click on Start | Run
2. Type cmd.exe in the Run dialog box and press enter
3. In the black window that appears type debug
4. type the following command line in the debug window

d c000:0000 0200

5. Look on the left side of the screen for information that pertains to your video card.
6. You may have to adjust the hex address in increments of 0100 for example:

d c000:0000 0300
d c000:0000 0400
d c000:0000 0500
d c000:0000 0600

7. Use this information to try and find a driver
8. If you still cannot locate a driver you may have to pull the card out of the class (unless it is an onboard [embedded] video chip)

Good luck
