Children’s Health Issues: Abrasions, Cuts And Scratches

Sometimes abrasions, cuts and scratches lead to dire consequences when they aren’t looked after at the proper time. Children run throughout the house and drop vases and other glass material, which can result in scratches or cuts. Outdoor activities ought to be supervised carefully, otherwise abrasions resulting from a wall or a rock is unavoidable. You will find slight differences among the three and most of times children get them while playing.

Cuts are caused by sharp objects, which can penetrate into the skin or damage the skin on the surface. Scratches are a mild form of cuts. They're also caused by sharp objects such as a piece of glass, thorn or a knife. Even fingernails can cause a scar. Abrasion is caused by friction or rubbing of the skin with a rough surface. Rug burns and board burns are also examples of abrasion, because they're a result of friction.

Also, in all three cases, the wound can bleed.  It bleeds when the tiny blood vessels located underneath the skin gets ruptured. Platelets form clot to stop the bleeding and a scab can also form, that ought to be pulled out as that may interfere with the healing process of the body. If the bleeding isn’t stopping, the wound should be covered with a soft cloth. After that the wound should be cleaned using lukewarm water and gentle soap. Antibacterial ointment really should be used to clean the wound plus it ought to be covered with a bandage. The antibacterial ointment helps kill germs. The bandage will prevent bacteria from getting within and prevents the wound from getting bothersome. However the bandage ought to be changed everyday and the wound ought to be kept dry.

The good thing is that abrasion, cuts and scratches don’t require any special attention in many instances. However,if the scratch is made by animal claws or abrasion is caused by a rusty metallic surface, a physician really should be approached immediately, because the animal could have rabies and also the rust could potentially cause septic.Depending upon the situation, the physician would prescribe antibiotics, lotion or perhaps shots. It's also recommended that parents be sure that their kid is given tetanus shot on a regular basis. Sometimes, the wound won’t be caused in dangerous circumstances, but because of negligence, the wound will get infected by bacteria. If the wound is infected, it's going to show symptoms such as redness, swollen skin, and production of puss which can be the color yellow or either green.

Cuts can occasionally be too deep and even long. In these instances, stitches should be certainly opted for. It is a quite simple procedure. The area of the wound is made numb using some form of anesthesia. It can either be injected or simply just applied directly. Then your doctor will sew the cut edges together using certain needle and thread. In the event the cut isn’t large enough, the cut is sealed employing a special form of glue, rather than the stitches. The glue will hold the edges together so that the skin underneath will heal and over a period of time, the glue will dissolve.  Kids must check with the physician each week, so that the doctor will be able to analyze the improvement. Then when the wound is completely healed, the stitches are cut open using scissors and then the threads are removed gently. In most of the instances, the wound doesn’t leave behind a scar. This totally depends onthe method and effectiveness of the treatment.

Will my mole grow back?

A little over a week ago I cut off a mole on my knee. It was raised, and quite a bit larger than a pencil eraser. When I consulted a doctor he said it was too large to burn off and recommended I go to a derm and have it "shaved" off. I don't have insurance, and don't have a few hundred dollars to throw away, so I used a manicure scissor to carefully snip it off. I made tiny, careful snips til there was just a big round hole, which I kept bandaged, and used neosporin on for the first few days, and then moved on to New Skin, paint on bandage, after it stopped seeping. It now has a nice, flat scab that just looks like I picked a mosquito bite or something. My room mate thinks it will grow back, but I think since I cut the whole thing off it won't. Does anyone have an informed opinion about this? Thanks in advance!

Wow didn't that hurt,? And yes it ,may grow back.
I would go back to your doctor to see if there's anything you can do to prevent it from growing back.
